Virtual Run/Walk for Sherry Arnold - February 11, 2012

On Saturday January 7, 2012, Sherry Arnold went for a run in Sidney, Montana and never came home. Two out-of-state men have been arrested in her disappearance.

The status of the Arnold investigation remains the same - Sherry Arnold's body has not been found. Arnold's family along with the law enforcement believe she was killed shortly after her kidnapping on January 7th.  A multi-state search immediately erupted in full force, that quickly resulted in the arrest of the two men. They have to this date been charged with kidnapping.

Sherry was a mother, daughter, sister, teacher, runner, and friend to many. She was from Sidney which is just right next door to where I grew up in the little town of Plentywood, Montana. In Eastern Montana, tragedies like this do not happen often. In that neck of the woods, the land is scattered with tight knit small communities where everyone knows, trusts, and looks out for each other.  It is this old fashioned way of treating your neighbors as family, that leads me to writing today.

Today, February 11, 2012, people all over the country are honoring Sherry by participating in a virtual run/walk with her on their minds. This afternoon Rylee and I ran 2.5 miles. Not only Sherry, but her family and friends were on my mind as we ran through the neighborhood here in South Florida. To think that people all over the USA are participating in this event today warms my heart. It is amazing to see all of the photos of peoples runs/walks today in honor of Sherry. Click here if you would like to see pics of how Sherry has created footprints all over the USA in just one day. I hope it can also bring a tiny piece of comfort to her family and close friends to know that she is though of by so many.

Redneck Woodstock

At the end of January, Dan and I attended Chili Cookoff 2012 with some of our friends. For those of you who have never heard of Chili Cookoff, it is a fun filled day of country music here in So Flo, just 10 minutes from mi casa. Yippee!!

Every year, Kiss Country, a local radio station, brings this wild event to town called the Chili Cookoff. Bringing in popular country artists creates a redneck's paradise. It is on this day every year that the streets are taken over by plaid and cowboy boots...and Billy Bob's and Daisy Duke's.

YEEHAW!!

With gates opening around 8AM, people start to line up to get in and get a good spot on the grass around 5 or 6 AM. Some people even camp out so they can guarantee they can put their lawn chair or blanket front and center.

Beer drinking starts early for many folks on this day. Can you say Coors Light for Breakfast? Some people even start the party the night before....but those are usually the ones you see getting carted out by police the opening act.

All in all it is a grand ol' time. A fun filled day including great music, food, drinks, and friends....Oh ya. I think there is Chili involved somewhere too but I have never experienced that part.

This year we packed coolers of sandwiches, fruit, veggies, chips, water and beer and headed out early in the AM to listen to Zac Brown Band, Luke Bryan, Chris Cagle, Clay Walker, and Sonia Leigh.

A great time was had by all. I took tons of pics and videos. Sadly my phone with it's camera died before I ran into the belligerently drunk 50 something year old woman in her "Save A Horse Ride A Unicorn" belly shirt. The next day, while uploading videos I was once again reminded that I am a horrible singer after a drink. Oh well! It was fun!

Here is a preview from the Chili Cookoff from the Kiss Country website.
