Sometimes You Just Have To Drop It All

Dan came home from football a few days ago and invited me to join him out on the boat for the last few hours of daylight. I was elbow deep in Christmas baking but I knew a little break entailing some sunshine and QT with my man would be good for the soul. I dropped everything, threw the dog a bone, popped on some jean shorts and a cut off tee, and hopped in the passengers seat. Off we went to enjoy the last bit of daylight, a piece of the everglades, and the beaming rays of sun.

The next two hours brought me relaxation, excitement, and peace of mind. The combo of nature, sunshine, and good company was the perfect break!

He was a fighter so I helped Dan by netting it.

My picture with the Snake Fish.

Later that evening, after I had whipped out some more Christmas baking, I took Dan up on another offer. We tried out his new spotlight and crossbow out back by the canals. He got a Barnett Jackal Crossbow with an attachment for fish from one of his friends for his birthday. He couldn't wait to test er' out.

With neighborhood guard dogs howling and all nocturnal creatures out for the evening, we creeped along neighborhoof water fronts hunting for the monsters of the night. We weren't sure what to except. Gators, Pythons, and everything else are active at night. Oh my what fun!!!

What?.. Redneck you say?... Ha! That's alright! I have a feeling everyone in our neighborhood already thinks we are strange...I can't imagine what the neighbors butler will think when he checks the security cameras! Anyone ever seen the Beverly Hillbillies?...Nuf Said...haha

For all ya'll who ever seen this her Beverly Hillbillies show, I reckon I got er her for ya. ...a dern good show fer Christmas!

Sometimes, even when you are really busy trying to get stuff done on time, what you actually need is a small break to keep ya fresh. It is all worth it, and you will be back on track in no time:)

Books and Bears Program

Encouraging Young Children To Read

On Wednesday, December 14th, and Friday, December 16th the Books and Bears program was held for young children approximately ages 4 and 5. Wednesday the program was held at the North Lauderhill Library. The Community relations crew from the Miami Dolphins attended as well as a good handful of Miami Dolphins wives and fiances. Friday at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale there was no Miami Dolphins community relations participation, but the Head Coaches wife Taneka and myself attended that event as well. Over all there were about 150 children on Wednesday and around 75 on Friday.

On both Wednesday and Friday the kids had a blast! There was someone in costume to entertain. They sang Christmas songs, and helped do magic tricks. Many laughs were had. Towards the end of the program we passed out juice and cookies, followed by bags that held a book and teddy bear for them to take home with them. They were very excited about their gifts and couldn't wait to tell me all about what was inside their bag.

The Miami Dolphins were the presenting sponsor of the Books and Bears program. The program is run by the Broward County Public Libraries. This program is meant to encourage young children to read and is held every December throughout Broward County Libraries.

Here are a few pictures from the events. These kiddos are so darn cute I just wanted to take them all home with me. I love this age. It is fun programs like these that make me miss teaching.

Fins and Kids Holiday Toy Event

Last Tuesday, the Dolphins held the annual Fins and Kids Holiday Toy Event. Dan and I have participated every year as it is a lively event filled with lots of holiday spirit. This year over 160 kids from four local elementary schools as well as the Alternative Family Care Center, Cooperative Feeding Program, Urban League of Miami, Project Medishare and ChildNet were gifted with items off of their wish lists. Boy did that generate some big smiles! Children walked away with new bicycles, I-Pod Touches, dolls, gift cards to clothing stores, and many other items that they wishes for.
Also on site was a huge bouncy house for the children to jump in, our mascot T.D. to play with, and players, players wives, and cheerleaders to talk to and hand out gifts. A dance contest was held, and the winners took home GREAT prizes! One child even won a new I-Pad!
Below are some pictures from the event that I found over at the Miami Dolphins official website. To see more pictures and read more about the event visit their website by clicking HERE.
